A fairly tight crop giving the bird just a little more room to the right
and below - make him fill most of the top & left of the frame - might work.
Give him twice as much room to the right as he has to the left, and
about 1-1/2 as much at the bottom than he has at the top.
It would eliminate most of the background and make your bokeh problems
less noticeable, while lifting him slightly and giving him room to fly
into.
