Eric, There are two ways of moving files when using LR.
1. Move files inside of LR. It will move the files and update all the database references automatically. 2. Move the files using your OS. You will need to tell LR where the new location of the files are after you move them. If you are moving more than a few folders, it gets really tedious to repeat the update steps for each folder. I've done it both ways, and it depends on how much time I have at the moment and if I'll need to access those files right away (if I don't need to use the files right away, I'll move them through the OS, and update the references later).
