Used makes a lot of sense, but some folks will be stubborn about "wasting the money". For most folks, the Kx level DSLR or the Canon Powershot G11 will be good. (The latter is a P&S but a bigger one.) For the P&S crowd, they may want to shoot off of the LCD. We all hate that, but many folks prefer it given the rotten optical finders on the P&S cameras. For those that want interchangeable lenses, don't overlook the MILC/EVIL cameras like the E-P1 or the Panasonic G whatever. The retired orthodontists may want to go straight to the 645D.
