Outlook is evil but many people, myself included, are obliged to use it
at work. Here's how to tighten up security a bit: In Outlook, go to the
Tools menu, select Options and click on the Security tab. In the Secure
Content box select "restricted sites" Then click on the Zone Settings box
next to it and click on the Custom Levels button. In the custom levels dialog
shut off every option (Java, Active-X, cookies, avtive scripting, etc.)
you can find.
That'll improve security substantially. Personally, I also edit the system
registry and set the default action for JS, VBS, WSF and SHX files to open
in a teext editor (it's still possible to run these by right clicking on
the file and selecting Run).
I still haven't found a way to prevent Outlook from loading images so it's
still vulnerable to web bugs in email messages but the above procedure helps
a lot. I still won't allow Outlook on my home PC, though. Forte Agent is
my choice there.
