I see.
Yes, you are right, this M lens works like most other M versions. I actually 
didn't realize, that some M-lenses are different. 

I did look for a K-version as well at ebay  - and I found one. But according to 
the PentaxForums Lens Database, the K-version does suffer more from Chromatic 
Aberration (purple fringing) - and the K-version is 0,065 kg heavier, and it 
has a longer minumum focusing distance, 8 m as opposed to just 5 m for the M 
version.

So, I prefere the M-version, I guess.
In fact it's not too bulky, as I suspected, since there's no glas in the rear 
half of the barrel. 
And 1,22 kg isn't too bad, I think. 

BTW: I did the test, shown at www.flickr.com again.
It still seems that then Pentax is not so sharp at F 5.6. But quite sharp at f8 
or above. As opposed to my Sigma DG 135-400mm, which is equally sharp/unsharp 
at most aperture settings:
