The branch didn't bother me, but why isn't it practical to clone? If you're in
ACR, it opens in PhotoShop.

Absolutely, but then I'm in Photoshop, no longer ACR. :-)
I treat ACR as a poor man's Lightroom. I launch it from Bridge, do some
non-destructive edits like WB, cropping, curves, dodge/burn, spot
removal, etc. In 19 images out of 20, at that point I'm done. I save it
back and I can convert the image to sRGB and resize for the web by using
the Image Processor script right from Bridge. So no actual Photoshop
involvement most of the time and that suits me fine 'cause I'm a lazy
photographer.
If I have to do anything more extensive like cloning-out, or fancier
creative edits, then I launch the image into Photoshop. Now I invoke
Workflow Plan B where I have a separate folder area for keeping
Photoshop work in progress. (Heh, *all* my PS work is
work-in-progress.) It all gets more involved so I tend to avoid it if I
can.
That said, I just fiddled around with the Healing Brush in ACR and a
combination of cloning and healing seems to have effectively rid me of
those tree branches. There's just a hint of artifacting from some nearby
dark areas.
But I dunno, I think I'll just leave 'em in. Lazy wins again. :-)
