Proud owner of a DA*55 here (formerly owned the FA50). I find the lens to be a stunner; everything from handling, build quality, bokeh, clarity/contrast, sharpness, and wonderfully functional MF ring. The focus isn't blazing - but it's huge focus throw and emphasis on low-noise makes this understandable. I'm not sure if the SDM motor is having to do less work, was updated since the DA* zooms, or the lens is just less-owned, but I've yet to see or hear of a DA*55 failure.
