I am still waiting for a lens shootout result using
the SMC DA*55/1.4 versus the SMCP 55/1.8. Anyone have
both lenses?

I can only agree with you on the stellar qualities of the DA*55. Mine is 
now my default carry. I've clocked over a year and a half with it and 
have had no troubles. Nor have I heard of any failures from anyone else.
