Hi Aaron,
have you tried a black velvet with 500w halogen light in center of
it, off-center in frame, exposing _for the velvet_ ? :) I know
that's extreme but in concerts I often get least extreme but still
similar situations, with spotlight right into lens.

And what about a sun just after rain, the "reflector" variety I
wrote about, again exposing not for sun but for backlit subject?

Always with lightsource to side of frame, not centered.

If the 75/2.8 still doesn't flare, that's indeed very impressive!

But anyway, if the light difference is big enough, there is flare.
Even in super-superMC transmits 99.99 light. But I admit, in most
shooting situations, this doesn't show (OTOH, I have had flare even
on SMC primes, with sun striking the front element, not in frame,
exposing for shadowed subject. It was pretty modern SMC, on F
prime. Needless to say, this type of flare is solved by "perfect"
   hood)

Good light,
   Frantisek Vlcek
