you cant do open aperture metering with k/m lenses
except the rare case of shooting only wide open on 
aperture priority mode.

I think I'm getting it now, and I think what I've been doing is "stopped
down" metering. My camera's always set on M, I set the aperture, then punch
the AE-L button to set shutter speed.

A little shaky, still, on how I would do "open aperture." Would I have to be
in Av mode to do that?
