Partial eclipses can be seen very often (I think one or two extra this year). Sunset or sunrise eclipses are a lot more fun to watch. In 2003 we also had a partial sunrise eclipse. I went to northern France to watch the 1999 total eclipse. Just after the total eclipse the clouds broke open. Bad luck... We camped under a clouded sky and it slowly darkened. The scarry part was the light finally dimmed in steps as if god was switching off all the lights one by one (just before a total eclipse you can view a ring of diamonds, the sun peeking through mountains on the moon).
