No. The two technologies aren't as disparate as a kangaroo pouch and an egg. A better analogy would be driving two different routes -- one scenic and one fast -- to get to the same place. Or traveling to the same place by car rather than bicycle -- one being more pure, the other more efficient. Yes, it's true you can't bring objects into focus with PhotoShop – at least not to any great extent. But using tilt for DOF is really only a factor in large format photography, where DOF is extremely limited. With a 16 x 24 sensor, extensive DOF is easy to achieve. Tilt would be relatively useless in this case, except perhaps for macro photograph. And even in that case, the entire camera can usually be tilted to achieve matching focus. There's a reason why no one is producing new tilt/shift lenses for DSLR cameras.
