Thought I'd pass this along to see what the collective opinion is...

I don't have a dedicated film scanner and probably never will, but I
found a CanoScan 8000F (2400 x 4800 dpi) at a thrift store over the
lunch break today that I decided to take a chance on for $12.99.

It has the big thick lid with backlight for film scanning. It came
with power supply and everything, but not the film guides (or
software). Software shouldn't be much of a problem to procure, but I
need to rig something for a film holder (guide). Found this simple

For the little bit it takes to try, I'm going to give it a go. Just
wondered if anyone had any other ideas for DIY film holders to use
with this scanner.

I have an Epson I use for scanning but it only has a lamp for scanning 35mm negs... for medium format I made a holder out of two pieces of card with a 'hinge' made of duct tape. I left a slot in the hinge so I can scan a long strip of negs by pulling it through the whole scanner without keep opening it to reposition the negs. It takes a little careful cutting also a few layers of duct tape on the bottom piece of card help to..a, keep the film from being pinched by the card and b. to keep it over the slot. if you go with a setup like this you may find your scanner will not go into negative mode or selects a mode for slides... mine needed little windows cut in to the holder, the original had slots to tell the scanner which way round the neg holder is placed on the glass.

If you want any more details drop me a line and I will try to describe further...
