OTOH, some macro 50mm are really good at their starting aperture (2.8), perhaps even better than 1.4 at 2.8 ... Build quality - the A is probably the worst (just behind A 2/50), because it was the cheapest and most standard lens (Except the A 2/50...). I have seen 4 A 1.4/50s and they sucked quality too (better than the cheap nikkors though). IMHO the F version is better build than A, and the M and K are best build. Even the M is definitely way way better than A, even if perhaps less sharp (I have yet to compare them side by side, though).
