Hi Alan, but sharpness is really great at 2.8 +

BTW, I have yet to see a 50mm prime that is really sharp at 1.4 ...
Same for 1.2 primes...

OTOH, some macro 50mm are really good at their starting aperture
(2.8), perhaps even better than 1.4 at 2.8 ...

Build quality - the A is probably the worst (just behind A 2/50),
because it was the cheapest and most standard lens (Except the A
2/50...). I have seen 4 A 1.4/50s and they sucked quality too (better
than the cheap nikkors though). IMHO the F version is better build
than A, and the M and K are best build. Even the M is definitely way
way better than A, even if perhaps less sharp (I have yet to compare
them side by side, though).
