Hi Fritz,

I finally realized the 3047 is total overkill for my current camera/lens
combo. I recently switched to one of Bogen's "3D" heads, the 3025, and find
it more flexible, lighter, and a better match for my kit.

With the Bogen 3025 you can reverse your center column and rotate the head
so that your camera remains upright but still below the tripod. If you want
to get lower, you could make a small depression (depending on where you
are) and have the camera mounted below ground level, but angled up and get
the earthworm's-eye view of your subject. <g>

It's a very nifty head and only about US $25 new, if I remember correctly.
