I spent a whole year trying to transition into Unix before I finally threw in the towel and bought a Mac. To think, all the time lost to that failed effort when I could have gone to work immediately if I'd gone straight to Mac in the first place. I do have to say, if I'd been working with a new machine, not even necessarily a high-powered one, just adequate, Unix mighta worked out fine for me. As I was, my thinking was, "If I can get a have decent installation running on this old junk, I'll buy a new machine."
