you can run a POSIX subsystem alongside Windows. Not an emulation, an actual POSIX kernel. It used to be available as a free download called SFU (Windows Subsystem For Unix) later SUA. I'd have called it STFU. It's included with the top end versions of Windows now, not available separately.
