Note, too, his pronunciation of words like "about", "aloud", and "pleasure"; I'd agree that sounds like a west country burr lurking under the surface. I wouldn't characterise this accent as particularly upper-class, though, especially considering the age of the speaker. Educated, certainly, but not a noticeable public school twang (let alone Eton, Oxford and the Guards). While my pronunciation has lapsed considerably in the 30+ years I've been in the colonies, I can, if I put my mind to it, produce an accent that makes it apparent just what a jumped-up little oik this video presenter really is. Even the BBC lets Just about anybody read the news nowadays, and they don't even have to wear evening dress for the broadcast! Bring back Richard Baker, Robert Dougall and Jack de Manio (or Douglas Smith, at a pinch ...). -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
