Will other people be taking flash photos?

There are also lumiquest soft boxes, fongdongs, and my cheapass simulated
fongdongs that I make out of plastic water (or milk) jugs. One thing that I
like about my cheapass ones is that I generally line one of the sides with
aluminum foil so rather than being a total light grenade with photons going
everyplace, it's more of a shaped charge.

I'll take it as a give that you have to be some distance away from the stage,
but do your flashes?

If you're the official photographer, can you set them up closer to the stage on
radio, or optical trigger?

I'd be tempted to do something with a couple of cheap manual speedlights,
remote triggers and maybe a speedlight on camera to cut down on shadows from
directly on axis.

Try to set up your key and side fill lights so that their shadows are cast out
of the frame.
