Pentax brand or other, would you suggest?

Collin, if you're after flash, then SCA system Metz flashes (Metz40MZ-2 being one I use) are convenient. Unless you want to spring for Pentax native flashes (360 and 540 seem to be current), this one is one I could recommend. It has its own light sensor and does a reliable job.

When shooting for Galia's school indoors I simply dial ISO to 400 and then bounce and swivel the flash any way I please. Got good results with K10D, K-7 and K-5. If you bounce and swivel the pictures would be underexposed some, but it was always easy to correct in post without much noise penalty.

I am using the adaptor (off the top of my head it is SCA 3701, but I am not 100% certain) that passes ISO, Aperture value and lens focal length from body to flash which then takes this information into account. My specific flash can do strobe effect (multiple flashes at single discharge), first and second curtain sync, etc.

My specific adaptor and flash don't support P-TTL but I don't think I ever was in the situation when I needed it.

My understanding is that these flashes can be had for reasonable money.
