Hi ... I have one of these lenses, which I recently commented on for another list member who was considering it.
I agree that it's a bit soft at wider apertures, and that there is light falloff that, for some people with some subjects, could be unacceptable. While it's true that the image shapes up and starts to look good at 4.0 or 5.6, I've never noticed the aberrations you've described at the wider apertures. IOW, it's not a great lens, but I don't think it's as bad as you describe it to be. And once it's in the 5.6 - 11.0 range, the results are very nice. Good detail right out to the corners, decent (but not superb) resolution, also out to the corners. No signs of smearing. One of my nicest, recent photos was made using it at f8.0 with TX. Although the print is only 8 x 80, the results look quite satisfactory, and I think an 11x14 should be no problem.
