Hi all, thanks for the replies. As several noted, it was good I was only trying the lens out, I haven't bought it yet. Now my standard practice with ANY lens I intend to buy. If I can't, I won't (buy it), except when having some sort of guarantee or knowing the seller well.
From your descriptions, it seems the lens I tried out was indeed bad aligned or with some other illness. It was just strange that I couldn't detect any signs of previous opening of the lens (and I am getting good at spotting them), nor any haziness inside (checked with a bright light). Must have somehow escaped Pentax's QC, or perhaps it got damaged somehow by fall which didn't show.
