Sounds like an F5. > This can be a 12 month task that can involve a team of 3 > An electronics engineer, designer amd moulder/assembler Are you a camera engineer? > I am not asking for a complete new body just an improved body of the current mzs. > > Are you saying Pentax is so small of a company they can't afford to invest $200,000 >US > for a body that can last for the next 10 years (if it costs them that much? > > Remember all we are talking about is an improvement of the MZS which would be faster > fps, fully sealed body and a possible faster film rewind Which means more power consumption which means more batteries which means a larger body, which leads to a redesign... If you really want 10+fps, then you should look at the Canon with mirror which doesn't flip up. Or maybe a movie camera. But if you have a digital, you can get 25+ fps... The fundamental question is not whther thay can do it. It's whether it's thr right thing for Pentax to do. Personally, I don't think they'll ever bother with the F5 style of camera. They started competing with Nikon with the Z-1p and they lost that battle even though the Z-1p was far better specified that the N90. I doubt they'd try that again. > You telling me globally on planet Eart they wouldn't sell 200 bodies @ $1800 us in >the > first 24 months which would tally @ $360,000 plus the on going sales and profits >they > can make for the next 10 years? Turnover is not the same as profit. > Someone needs to sit down and look at the big picture not the picture in the tunnel >with > an attitude "We enthusiasts could not provide Pentax with enough cash" Maybe Pentax want to leave the market for Nikon F5s to Nikon? Pentax's main market is P&S cameras and low end SLRs which can use all the lenses. Their SLR customers are generally enthusiasts who appreciate a well made camera and not 'professionals' (i.e. sports and photojournalist types). Basically, if you want an F5, then go and get one. Pentax aren't going to make one - it's just not part of their philosophy. dave -- dave o'brien - http://www.diaspoir.net Q: Why do ducks have big flat feet? A: To stamp out forest fires.
