Maybe Pentax want to leave the market for Nikon F5s to Nikon? Pentax's main market is P&S cameras and low end SLRs which can use all the lenses. Their SLR customers are generally enthusiasts who appreciate a well made camera and not 'professionals' (i.e. sports and photojournalist types).
