A photograph should speak for itself. While we sometimes offer explanations here, that's for discussion and enlightenment. It's certainly not a mandate and, IMO, it's inappropriate in some venues. BTW, I think it's much more likely that he employed gradient filters than HDR. But either is fine with me. Again, no explanation required. The artist's tools are his own.
