Well that was one of the things I was trying to get my head around. I
have CS3 and if I understand things correctly, if you batch process in
Photoshop you end up with a second set of images (tiff or jpg) whereas
in Lightroom you just get image adjustments embedded in the DNG or as a
sidecar. Of course, it's entirely possible that I don't understand
things correctly....
I probably don't either.
With Lightroom I can:
Process a bunch of files as a batch, or individually, or a combination
of the two.
I can take those files and send them to my printer, or make a nice
interweb album which also uploads to my website.
Or I can burn them to a CD or DVD (or save them to a hard drive or USB
drive)
All with whatever changes I've made to the files with Lightroom.
and all saved and/or published the way I saw it on my screen.
Having said this, I use Photoshop quite a bit because I am more
comfortable with it as an editing program.
