"As good as" is a difficult value judgement: EVFs are very different from either ground glass reflex optical finders or optical tunnel finders, with very different strengths and weaknesses. The latest EVF generation with high pixel density, fast refresh speeds and good dynamic range (the Panasonic Gx, GHx with built-in, and the add-on Olympus VF-2 and the Ricoh GXR VF-2 finders) to my eye produce significantly better focusing and viewing quality than any of the others on the market (X100 included). I like them a lot more than the lower-end SLR optical reflex finders as well, and for most but not all shooting situations they are comparable in quality to the pro-grade SLR finders. (Sequence shooting and tracking with long lenses ... nothing beats a pro-grade SLR viewfinder for that yet.) But in many situations I simply prefer an optical tunnel viewfinder and that's how I have the GXR set up most of the time: LCD for when I need to see and lock in a difficult focus point, optical finder for when I'm focusing by zone or center spot AF. The EVF is on the camera now and then when having a 100% coverage, TTL, eye level viewfinder is essential to getting the job done best. -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
