This is a very high-end (and expensive) unit, and the video is
teetering close to the edge of out-and-out falsehood. While it
is possible to *print* an object made up of multiple components,
there is absolutely no way an input scanner can "see through"
parts of the target to determine the exact shape of the interior
pieces, or even the interior surfaces of the outermost pieces.
It also doesn't show the cleanup stage between printing and use.

But 3D printing is real, and can be done at hobbyist prices.
There were several booths displaying 3D models at this year's
Maker Faire. The hobbyist units generally work with a softer
plastic, so they're more suited to making keychains or ornaments
rather than usable tools, and most only work in monochrome.
But I have to admit I was tempted by the booth that would sell
you a do-it-yourself 3D printer (ready-built, or as a kit).

Somewhere I've got business cards from a couple of artists
who use 3D printers in creating their wares.
I believe Larry has a friend who does that kind of thing, too.
