I keep every receipt for everything I purchase, I mark on my calendar the day I buy 6 lbs of cat food to see how long it lasts, which is to say how much I HAVE to spend on it in a year, I mark the boxes of things I consume with the date I bought it if it is something I really like but isn't an absolute necessity.

But all these things involve jotting down notes. I call the bank
at least 3 or 4 times a week to verify how much is in each bank account
so I don't bounce a check, for one.

Yet, in terms of my ebay sales, I let ebay and paypal do that... the way
you deal with gasoline (I have to pay them, so what it is it is) Anything I sell for someone I charge a fixed percentage for the amount something sells for and take the expense out of my part - call that
my gasoline tank :-)

I didn't used to do any of that but I sure need to now.

Of course not. But the that universe is a foreign world to me. I know such

I'm guessing it has a lot to do with spending limited available funds
most wisely. As such I need to track all my expenditure also.

But gasoline is a necessity. When I need gasoline, I buy gasoline. When I need
food, I buy food. Tracking the price of necessities accomplishes absolutely
nothing, other than satisfying some compulsion to record numbers.
