Bob,

I don't have an X100 with me, but can't you disassociate AF from the
shutter release button and assign it to the AF button? That's how I
have my K10D set up, precisely for the reason you've outlined: If I
want to take many pictures of a subject at a fixed distance, I don't
want to refocus and recompose for every frame I shoot.
