After I wrote and sent my comment, I remember doing the same thing when it comes to spotting things that normally are not obvious. Especially after I have gotten back into taking captures. It also helps that while out on my nature walks I am always trying to keep an eye out and trained on areas of the woods that are different colors or shadows that are moving about and the different sounds around me.
