I'm not close to the ocean, but the Raritan River is about a mile from our house, and is subject to flooding during heavy rains. We have had problems getting in and out of our neighborhood when it floods. Also, our back yard has poor drainage, and we can get standing water or water in the basement. Those are minor inconveniences, however, compared with what could happen at the shore, or in places like Wayne and Bound Brook. Our local utilities are underground, so we will not lose power unless it is a regional failure.
