Never been in a real Hurricane before... just hoping we don't lose

The contents of the freezer should remain frozen for a few hours at least if
the power goes out. But I guess they wouldn't be repairing it until after the
hurricane has passed. It's actually good that you have so much in there as
it'll stay cold for longer.

If it's out for too long you might be able to get some ice from wherever you
buy ice over there (we get it from petrol stations). Yes, I was desperate
enough to do that when our fridge died a few months back. But you'll need
enough space to squeeze it in. Be aware that there will be at least one small
hole in the bag so water will get everywhere as the ice melts.

Cheers,
Dave

The freezer is packed full - yes, and I also have packed it with bottles of water to make mammoth ice cubes... to put in an ice chest.

Actually in my neighborhood we have had enough black outs and power outages over the years to know the drill pretty well... I just replaced a dying refridge and had about month of putting things in ice chests to defrost...

There have been at least 5 or 6 power outages in my
hood in the past 10 years or so and 3 or 4 within the last 2 years due to problems with underground transformers.

It would be expensive and difficult to get ice here if it goes on too long - but I'm in a pretty good area - I'm optimistic at this point -

The evac map has thre levels of watch out for the high water, so to speak, and I'm not in any of them - happily
