My daughters live in Bay Ridge, very close to the lower bay, but they're in a 3rd floor apartment as well, so they should be fine. In the past, most of the hurricanes that have reached the Northeast have weakened as they moved over cooler water. I suspect that will happen again. I remember watching the eye of Hurricane Gloria ?? pass overhead through our front window, when we lived in Jersey. Must have been around 1988 or so.
