yeah, but the luminance sliders seem to work on the "mixed" colors, rather than 
the primary signals from the sensor.

And, thanks Doug for pointing me at the presets.  I realize how foolish it is 
that I haven't even tried them out yet.

I think that led me to the treatment I wanted, interestingly using the blue 
filter instead of a red:

The blue filter seems to have done you well. You might think about losing the smeary lower right hand corner, because it competes with the subject. Cropping in would emphasize the leaf and clean up the comp a bit.
