I like my K-x, but #2 son just picked up a K20D for (a decent price) in a resale shop. He is going to resell it, and I'm wondering if I might be the customer. So I was wondering ... how do they compare? Apart from the % difference in pixel count, how is the image quality of the K20D as compared to the newer bodies.
The image quality of the K20D is simply excellent, Collin. I regularly make 19" (and bigger) prints that are just stunning for detail and colour. Plus, where noise appears it is very film-like and not objectionable. This, I take it, is an attribute of the excellent Pentax/Samsung CMOS sensor. Because the image quality is so good, I've held off upgrading to anything newer. I'm tempted by the K-5 though ...
The K-x is a great little camera and if you're really in need of the low light performance or the smaller, lighter body, it'll beat the K20D.
But the K-x show-stopper for me is its lack of focus point indicators. You just can't tell what it has focused on! That simply drive me nuts. The lack of weather sealing is a nuisance too.
The K20D is a pro level body. If you need them (I do) you'll likely appreciate its pro refinements.
