I have been using the K20D since May 2009 (B&H new body price $ 670
w/shipping). I have taken hand held street shots at night with just
sodium vapour street lamps - most of them partially shaded by tall
trees. Absolutely no noise at ISO 1600, and negligible noise at ISO
3200. In fact I took test shots indoors at night to establish banding
in the dark areas. NIL banding, NIL noise. But under certain
conditions like a hand held shot of Paris by night from the Eiffel
Tower, I did notice some noise in the dark skyline. But the photo was
overall under exposed. And under this condition the K20D does show
some noise.
I am certain our friend has a bad copy of the K20D.
And I have used the K20D in the extreme chill of the Swiss Alps, the
heat & humidity of some parts of India, and never had a problem. I
have taken photos close to the Niagara Falls in the Maid of the Mist -
with torrential spray. Went on shooting when the Canikon chaps packed
up.
