[Francis asked how to keep film from losing its grip on the take up
spool.]

Well, in 18 years with my ME Super, this hasn't happened to me. My
technique is to push the leader firmly into the 'magic needles' on the
far (outer) side of the take-up spool, and to give the winder two full
cranks before I close the back. That's enough to get both rows of holes
engaged on the sprocket. Occasionally, the leader slips out before it's
properly engaged, in which case I just push it in a bit harder and try
again. I don't often have to repeat this more than once.

Contrast this with the 'easy, automatic' loading of my MZ-5n, which
frequently takes several attempts to get the leader to engage properly.
Another example of Shel's Unnecessary Automation (TM). <g>

Any help?
                Clive.
