I agree with Paul. I like version 2 best. Your final version is excellent but I 
do like the bit of extra punch in 2.

I agree with Bruce that I want drama and detail, so here's the final
version which more or less achieves what Bruce suggested - drama in the
clouds but less contrast in the foreground.  I have to stop now before I
go cross-eyed :-)>
