I forget the amount of internal memory it had for normal use and housekeeping, some ridiculously low amount, either 512 or 256 MB. I figured my performance degradation was largely due to having used most of that up, as the phone would starting hanging and hesitating about the same time it gave me the 'Memory Low' notifications at 25 MB left. When ever I downloaded a new app I'd have to delete another one. That's even with religiously moving every app possible to the microSD card, My new phone is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and its performance is heads and tails over the original Droid. My son is due for an upgrade, and preferring a physical keyboard he's going to get the Samsung Stratosphere in about a week. It's the only 4G phone with a physical keyboard on Verizon, and it seems to be a better keyboard than what the Moto Droids have (chunkier keys, better spacing). It seems the screen will be far superior also. Neither of the two just mentioned will likely fit in your bike mount. Maybe better to get the phone you want and consider the mount a cheap accessory? Costco had the Stratosphere at a $39 upgrade price with 2-yr contract. Not sure what it'll be this week. Upgrading on the Galaxy Nexus was painless. All contacts synced with my Google account and all Android Market apps were available for download. Amazon apps were also available to reinstall thru the app store. I agree with your sentiments. When I got the first Droid it was the coolest Swiss pocket knife I ever had. The Galaxy Nexus has a facial recognition for unlocking. Not totally secure but good enough. It's cool just to pick up your phone, have it recognize your face, and unlock itself.
