I went through the rest of what I had shot and it was not there.
Oddly enough it appears to have harmonics.  When I looked through the images, 
some of them have a lower-level vertical banding at various places on the 
image.  (So I'm really not thinking shutter speed.)  The full-size example that 
I linked to has some of these visible, but you have to scroll through across 
and look for the subtle influence rather than the one most visible band.

Since it *appears* to have harmonics, that goes to EMI/hash in the air causing 
issues with electronics.  And that seems even more consistent with what my 
local expert has stated.
