What a fun adventure and nice captures. It has been rather warm here as well
so not sure what the warm temps in winter means for the summer.

Subject: PESO: Snowy Owl in Nebraska

Before you look at these you should know that Thomas Mangelson has nothing
to worry about when it comes to my wildlife photography.
But Snowy Owls are in the area (I'm told a once-in-a-lifetime event that
they come as far south as Nebraska) and I've been dying to capture one.
Last evening I spotted one near our small town airport on a lamp post, right
after sundown, but I did not have my camera with me. Tonight I was in place,
in case he returned again. He did, right on time, but he landed on the
street light farthest from me (natch).

He didn't stay long and took off to the SW. I followed him through the
telephoto (and through my car window) snapping sillhouette shots when, to my
surprise another flew into view and they tangled repeatedly in mid-air.

After three tangles or so one flew of farther SW. I tried to catch up,
hoping to find where he had landed. I succeeded, but unfortunately it was on
some extremely high power poles. I placed myself beneath him and shot
through the sunroof. When I realized it was getting too dark I decided to
try using my flash set on manual, which worked decently.

I've got a sequence of them tangling and a half dozen decently sharp shots
of the bird by himself.
Never thought I'd have to be removing red eye from a Snowy Owl, but one of
them needs it.
: )

Neat day.
(We also broke the temperature record for the date by 5 degrees, with a high
of 68. Take THAT 1931.)
