Tounge was planted firmly in cheek.
My general view is that if you like your Pentax gear, and are getting the
photos you want with it enjoy it and keep it. My view is different when it
comes to making equipment recommendations to rank amatuers (i.e., the poster on
photo.net, judging by the question, she had never taken wild life pictures with
an SLR). Pentax owners opinon on other camera brands is pretty muched based on
what they've read, or playing around with a camera for a short period of time.
Having actually owned and used a ZX-5 for 2 years and a N80 for about the same
period of time (I leave out the 3 years with a F100, because that's not in the
same price range as the other two, which are.), the AF is vastly better (faster
and more flexable: easily selectable focus sensors, dynamic AF and works
inlower light levels), the control interface is faster to use and has things
like program shift, the flash has rear curtain sync and adjustable fill flash,
the viewfinder is bigger and the info doesn't block part of the image and the
shutter release is much smoother and there is less vibration when the shutter
fires. Since the person on photo.net seems to be on a tight budget, there
wasn't much point in also mentioning that there are also AF-S and VR lenses
available for Nikon.
What about Canon and Minolta? I don't know, I only played around with them for
a little while.
