"In Like Flint" was a 1967 James Bond knock-off movie starring James Coburn.

The film title was a play on words the Errol Flynn reference. By 1967 when the film was made, most of the target audience would have never heard of Errol Flynn or the trial that gave rise to the expression.

It was part of the "everything spy" craze the first James Bond films spawned during the late 60s (I Spy, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Get Smart, The Avengers, Danger Man [aka Secret Agent] ... )

Anyway, as others have said, it can be hit-or-miss.

Sometimes short and easy, other times long and arduous. And that's
going both ways.

I think much of it has to do with the border guard lottery.

These guys have a lot if discretion. If they're in a good mood you're
 in like flint.

I remember your "fun" border crossing on way to GFM . So is it you
or your spell checker that changed 'In like Flynn" to "in like flint"
?

for Flynn think Errol Flynn, the HOllywod movie star and womanizer.

This guy just had a bad draw is all.

Having no fixed address didn't help his chances either.

It seems that the US has finally understood the threat posed by
those from the north....
