I suppose the problem I have with that advice is that in fact it's not advice
as much as marketing. I wonder who photo.net's biggest advertisers are if not
Nikon or Canon?
i think it's more a case of Phil Greenspun not really attending to his
venerable site; that article was begun in 1997, and while it claims to have
been updated a little over a year ago, it doesn't seem to have been a thorough
job, for example
"There are three kinds of digital SLR systems being made as of September 2005:"
and
"This seemed like a great idea at the time (2002) but four years later only
three Four Thirds system bodies have been built [...]"
but the veil of time has dimmed my respect for Greenspun overall; i remember
when i ate up his practical advice because it was presented so confidently
