What I find is that there is much in the videos that bears watching, even though it might not be the explicit subject of the video presentation and may seem at first glance to be simple stuff I would often skim over. With a complex, interactive application like Lightroom, how an experienced user approaches and uses the tools is often as or more important than the specific information regarding what control does what.
This information is quite difficult to present in a textual representation... it's usually the harder part of what I'm looking for, rather than 'what does this feature do'. Yes, reading can be faster. I'm generally not in a race to learn what I need to know at the fastest possible speed. I'd rather understand how to use the tools, then what they do and how they work becomes readily apparent through use and experimentation. So I spend a few minutes watching a video, then spend more time exercising what I learned and practicing what the tools do. Seems to work well for me.
