I don't know what you'd want to photograph, and in what light. But for rather dynamic situations where you have enough light for a fairly fast shutter speed, you may want to consider a monopod with a ball head. You won't be able to use it for 30 second exposures in high winds, but it'll make a huge difference over hand holding in most situation, is a lot more convenient, and a lot cheaper than a tripod worth spending money on.
