FWIW - I have a Gitzo CF tripod 35XXLS that I use with my 600 f4 that appears
to get the job done. No center post and collapses small enough that its easy to
travel with. It's light enough that it's become my one size fits all tripod. A
bit pricy but I simply got tired of lugging an old Gitzo aluminum tripod
around. Weighs in at around 5 lbs. and it doesen't freeze to my skin in the
cold.
