So - I bought a "new" A* 200 off ebay last week. I've been out of town
on business this week, and just picked up the lens last night. Ran just
a few quick test shots, but I have to say it is just smashing to have
what is essentially a brand new A* 200mm macro back in the kit. I hope
to take it out this weekend - the Dot Tailed Whiteface dragonflies
should be appearing about now....

It is good to know that your story with A* 200 has finally ended. I don't recall, so I'd try again - why did not you try to obtain Sigma 180/3.5 Macro? It is almost just as long, has AF for non-macro applications and it is up to date lens. I saw one going for sale on Pentax Forums recently.

It appears that the lens line up of Pentax during the film era was more complete than that nowadays... E.g. Pentax does not offer a digital equivalent of A* 200/4 macro...

I hope one day to meet you face to face, Mark and observe (and learn) you work your magic.
