An eggcrate (or grid) dramatically limits the light spread from the
front of the softbox. Normally the spread is 90-100 degrees or more.
Adding the grid/crate will cut that in half.

For your purposes you might find that using more black fabric (or
backgrounds) to avoid reflections is more useful than adding a grid to
the softbox. I've worked with both and stray reflections were by far
the bigger problem for me.

A gridded striplight is a very dramatic lighting tool. Essential for
doing the body light-sculpture kind of thing.

Larry, be sure and check out http://fotodioxpro.com/ for info too.

The differences between those products would appear to be mainly that
Fotodiox offers "standard" and "EZ-Pro" softbox variations. One type
works like an umbrella, versus the traditional stiff wires thing that
breaks fingernails I hear. (I don't have any of these yet, but I've
read up.)

The eggcrates are velcro'ed such that they adhere to the inside lip of
the softbox. They should be compatible. Even my $50 folding Fotodiox
24" speedlight softbox has the requisite velcro although I don't have
an eggcrate for it.
